2021 Bay Gelding by Getaway x Seventh Surprise
I am delighted to invite you to join a new syndicate I am setting up for an exciting 4-year-old gelding called Final Surprise.
He was purchased for me on the recommendation of renowned bloodstock agent Jerry McGrath for £40,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale on the 17th April 2025. His pedigree and point-to-point video can be viewed below, along with the syndicate agreement form.
The syndicate will run for an initial period of 2 years and consist of 6 shares. 3 shares have already been reserved. Each share will cost £7,500, with monthly fees of £490 for 24 months. We are prepared to split a maximum of 2 shares into half shares at £3,950 each plus £250 per month.
Both Ciaran Gethings and Johnny Burke have seen him and are excited about the opportunity to ride him in the future. Ciaran’s initial thoughts are in the video. The plan is to put him back into training in July, assess his progress and aim for either a bumper or a novice hurdle in the Autumn.

Jerry McGrath’s comments are as follows: “Final Surprise is a good-looking son of Getaway. He’s a tall athletic gelding with a great walk and plenty of scope. He’s a May foal so technically not even a 4-year-old. With that in mind, I think it leaves him open to massive improvement both physically and mentally. He finished 3rd on his only start in a competitive Irish maiden point-to-point at Rathcannon on the 6th of April 2025. He was only beaten 6 lengths in total and awarded an impressive 85 rating. We bought Final Surprise at Lot 1 of the Cheltenham Sale on the 17th April 2025. At the same sale, the winner of the same point-to-point, Crystal Island; was sold for £205,000 to Nicky Henderson and the 2nd horse, Kilnew Surprise, was sold to Paul Nicholls for £110,000. So naturally we were delighted to purchase this exciting recruit for £40,000. I’m sure this lad will be a great addition to Alastair’s yard, and I look forward to following his career path.”
I have asked Kevin Orchard from The Danum Partnership to manage the Syndicate. He has been highly recommended to me, Kevin has been a racehorse owner for 30 years and has over 5 years experience in managing Syndicates and Racing Clubs. In June 2024 he became the first Syndicate Manager to receive the new BHA License now required to run syndicates.
